Hey thought it was about time I updated this!
The past 2 weeks have been busy said goodbye to a few friends whose time serving in uganda has come to and end and they flew back to the states and europe. Lots of Praise points this week!
I have successfully started teaching a small bible class of between 2 -4 girls some with special needs and some without the first session I had 4 girls turn up and they were all so keen to hear Gods word. since then there have been one or two that have come regularily but with the political unrest not everyone can make it every week. the president has sworn in and as I write the rest of the Ugandan parliament is swearing in on the whole the country is more peaceful now pray that this will continue. The children that went missing a couple of weeks ago have been found alive and well.Praise God!
I also finished my university assessment last week and can tell you that I've passed my elective placement. I also received feedback from one of my essays which I also passed!
Prayer points are:
Sadly another child Moses passed away recently so if you could pray for his family.
I also just recieved word that a friend from home Stephen ( studying in Stirling) has just been admitted to the Western General in Edinburgh with an infection in his cerebellum. He is improving slowly but if you could continue to pray for healing in that situation.
Finally this weekend I'm meeting with some of the other medical elective short termers with AIM and we are heading to Jinja to go white water rafting on the Nile.
Thats all for now will try to Update again soon!

Hi Guys!
The last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Two weekends ago I took a trip to Lake Bunyouni the second deepest lake in Africa The lake itself also has floating islands (so i'm told) and we stayed a coupls of days at a little resort on one of its fixed islands Bushara (the island of little birds). It was so enjoyable to stay there especially after all the trouble we had to go through to get there. We missed our first bus in Kampala so had to go to the bus park and get on another bus. Buses in uganda don't leave until they're full so even though we were nearly the last passengers to get on the bus didn't leave until an hour after we got on. it was another 3 hours before we got to Mbarara to meet with the rest of our group and get a taxi to the lake. once at the lake we got a boat to the island and ran out of petrol in the middle of the lake (we were literally up the creek with no paddles!) Eventually we made it to Bushara and checked into our safari tents and spent the next couple of days relaxing, swimming in the lake taking part in some traditional african dancing and listening to the birds. then it was time to head back to Mbarara where we stayed with another missionary family and went to church there (university Baptist Church) for Easter sunday. there was a pot luck lunch at another families house for all the missionaries in the area. Monday we headed back to Kampala to start a new week.
Tuesday at Mukisa was quite a sad day as one of the children who had been coming to Mukisa for therapy had fallen ill and passed away at the weekend. Also another child and her sister were abandoned by their mother at Mukisa on Wednesday and staff were struggling to get in touch with the mother to take them back.
Friday whilst the UK was tuned into the Royal Wedding Ugandans were rioting for several hours the last report I heard at least 80 had been injured and 4 were killed however I suspect it was actually many more. Things had settled by 3pm on Friday and I was able to travel to the AIM retreat for the weekend at Garuga resort beach. Right by Lake Victoria. It was a great three days relaxing a little with the other short termers and also learning about discipleship, cross cultural and interpersonal relationships as well as spiritual growth on Sunday.I am now in the process of planning a small bible teaching/study group with some of the children at Mukisa in the afternoons as I have noticed they do not have much to do in the afternoons whilst the younger chuildren nap and the parents go for english lessons.
Today there is good news the Children that were abandoned staff at Mukisa managed to get in touch with their mother and she has taken them back. Thanks to everyone who was praying into this situation I would ask that you continue praying for this family and their relationship with one another and with the staff at Mukisa. If you could also pray as i start planning this bible teaching group for these kids that God will have the wisdom to discern what to teach , that God will prepare hearts, that the children will be keen to get involved in the teaching.
Think thats all for now

Hi Guys!
So nearing the end of my first week in uganda. writing to you from a small internet cafe off Entebbe road. I have pictures but am unable to upload them yet sorry! I have moved in with Florence the Physio and founder of Mukisa. I have had two days working there and it is fantastic! Slowly picking up bits and pieces of the language but people are more than willing to help me out with it. Sunday I was at University Community Fellowship (UCF) a large church based in one of the local universities. I enjoyed my first experience of an African Church. I met up with some other AIM'ers 3 girls from the USA. Tomorrow were heading down to one of the lakes outside Mbarara one of the towns near(ish) to Kampala for the easter weekend. will report again soon
haven't long left! pray that God will really use me this week as i get to know kids and mums.
Thanks!

Friday 15th April
Hey!
So this is my blog for the next 8 weeks when I'll be in Uganda working with African Inland Mission (AIM) as a physiotherapist with the Mukisa Foundation. Mukisa is a day centre that is run for children with Motor Impairments and their Families. The Kids get physio and schooling and the parents get to help out with therapy but also have English lessons themselves too.
I have a full day of flying tomorrow starting at 06.05 with my first flight Edinburgh to Amsterdam then onto Nairobi before touching down in Uganda at 23.20. There I will hopefully be reunited with my luggage, get a visa and meet the driver who will take me to the guesthouse where I'll be staying the night. I'll be orientated on Monday and then will be moving into my new accommodation for the 8 weeks I'll be at Mukisa.
For now if you could pray for:
Blessings

- Luggage (that it will arrive in Uganda at the same time as I do!)
- Visa
- safe travel within the country
- the children, families and staff that I'll be working with at Mukisa.
- settling into the climate and lifestyle
