Hi Guys!
The last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Two weekends ago I took a trip to Lake Bunyouni the second deepest lake in Africa The lake itself also has floating islands (so i'm told) and we stayed a coupls of days at a little resort on one of its fixed islands Bushara (the island of little birds). It was so enjoyable to stay there especially after all the trouble we had to go through to get there. We missed our first bus in Kampala so had to go to the bus park and get on another bus. Buses in uganda don't leave until they're full so even though we were nearly the last passengers to get on the bus didn't leave until an hour after we got on. it was another 3 hours before we got to Mbarara to meet with the rest of our group and get a taxi to the lake. once at the lake we got a boat to the island and ran out of petrol in the middle of the lake (we were literally up the creek with no paddles!) Eventually we made it to Bushara and checked into our safari tents and spent the next couple of days relaxing, swimming in the lake taking part in some traditional african dancing and listening to the birds. then it was time to head back to Mbarara where we stayed with another missionary family and went to church there (university Baptist Church) for Easter sunday. there was a pot luck lunch at another families house for all the missionaries in the area. Monday we headed back to Kampala to start a new week.
Tuesday at Mukisa was quite a sad day as one of the children who had been coming to Mukisa for therapy had fallen ill and passed away at the weekend. Also another child and her sister were abandoned by their mother at Mukisa on Wednesday and staff were struggling to get in touch with the mother to take them back.
Friday whilst the UK was tuned into the Royal Wedding Ugandans were rioting for several hours the last report I heard at least 80 had been injured and 4 were killed however I suspect it was actually many more. Things had settled by 3pm on Friday and I was able to travel to the AIM retreat for the weekend at Garuga resort beach. Right by Lake Victoria. It was a great three days relaxing a little with the other short termers and also learning about discipleship, cross cultural and interpersonal relationships as well as spiritual growth on Sunday.I am now in the process of planning a small bible teaching/study group with some of the children at Mukisa in the afternoons as I have noticed they do not have much to do in the afternoons whilst the younger chuildren nap and the parents go for english lessons.
Today there is good news the Children that were abandoned staff at Mukisa managed to get in touch with their mother and she has taken them back. Thanks to everyone who was praying into this situation I would ask that you continue praying for this family and their relationship with one another and with the staff at Mukisa. If you could also pray as i start planning this bible teaching group for these kids that God will have the wisdom to discern what to teach , that God will prepare hearts, that the children will be keen to get involved in the teaching.
Think thats all for now
Cat xx
P.S have given up on attempting to upload photos will add a gallery to the end of this blog when i get back to the UK sorry :S
